Abstract/Sommario: This volume edited by Professor Erik Lundberg, Director of the Konjunkturinstitut, Stockholm, contains eight substantial unpublished papers selected from among those contributed to the first Conference of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth held in Cambridge, England. The first paper is a theoretical treatment of the functions and criteria of socia ...; [Leggi tutto...] This volume edited by Professor Erik Lundberg, Director of the Konjunkturinstitut, Stockholm, contains eight substantial unpublished papers selected from among those contributed to the first Conference of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth held in Cambridge, England. It deals with three major topics in the field of national income research. The main topic is social accounting. The first paper is a theoretical treatment of the functions and criteria of social accounting, illustrated by a new form of presentation of the United Kingdom social accounts, which is contributed by Richard Stone, who is Director of the Department of Applied Economics of the University of Cambridge, and also of the O.E.E.C National Accounts Research Unit. Four papers follow which describe the American, British, French and Dutch prac-tical experience in social accounting, with special reference to natjonal budgeting. These are contributed by Gerhard Colm, economist on the staff of the Council of Economie Advisers to the President of the United States; E. F. Jackson of the United Kingdom Central Statistical Office; Jan Marczewski, formerly of the Institut de Science Economique Appliquée, Paris; and G. Stuvel of the Netherlands Central Planning Bureau. The second topic is the treatment of Government in the social accounts, and Professor Simon Kuznets of the National Bureau of Economie Research, New York, and of the University of Pennsylvania, con- tributes a comprehensive analytic study of this. The third and final topic concerns the problems involved in intertemporal comparisons of real national income. J. B. D. Derksen of the United Nations Statistical Office has contributed an international survey of reai income comparisons and W. B. Reddaway, Lecturer in the University of Cambridge, discusses the measurement of changes in the real geographical product.
