Abstract/Sommario: Not so long ago the nation-state seemed to be on its deathbed, condemned to irrelevance by the forces of globalization and technology. Now it is back with a vengeance, propelled by a groundswell of populists around the world. Now it is back with a vengeance, propelled by a groundswell of populists around the world. In Straight Talk on Trade, Dani Rodrik, an early and outspoken critic of economic globalization taken too far, goes beyond the populist backlash and offers a more reasoned explanation for why our elites’ and technocrats’ obsession with hyper-globalization made it more difficult for nations to achieve legitimate economic and social objectives at home: economic prosperity, financial stability, and equity. The main characteristics of the Italian productive system, which is primarily composed of SMEs, are documented, and a map illustrating the importance of the various industrial districts is proposed, identifying their sectors of specialization, historical roots, and development. L’emersione visibile di nuove energie si è coniugata con trasformazioni inedite. Tutto il tessuto sociale ne ha beneficiato: l’imprenditoria ha più terreni su cui esprimersi, l’opinione pubblica svolge un ruolo importante, la democrazia si afferma come un valore oltre che come uno strumento, la dialettica parlamentare è acquisita. La stagione delle riforme è consolidata e smentisce un destino di rassegnazione dopo decenni in cui la lotta al sottosviluppo appariva secondaria rispetto all’appartenenza politica nella Guerra Fredda. Italia e Indonesia fanno parte del G20, non registrano animosità politiche o rancori post-coloniali. Le loro economie sono complementari, gli scambi e gli investimenti in crescita. Esistono dunque tutte le premesse affinché nella globalizzazione dispiegata si possa essere testimoni di un consolidamento delle relazioni, in linea con l’importanza e la storia dei due paesi. Il volume, edito da AREL – Il Mulino, è stato curato da Romeo Orlandi, sinologo e docente di Economia dell’Asia Orientale e Globalizzazione presso l’Università di Bologna. Il professor Orlandi è anche Vice Presidente dell’Associazione Italia-ASEAN, nata nel 2015 per fornire al Sistema Paese strumenti di conoscenza e di lavoro in contesto globale che vede l’ASEAN come l’area del mondo con il più alto potenziale di crescita e di sviluppo.
